Belleview Area Veteran Reba Jordan Celebrates 100th Birthday

Friends and family gathered recently to honor and celebrate 100 years of life for Belleview’s Reba Jordan. Hampton Manor in Belleview played host to the birthday party that featured balloons, patriotic music and cake. A veteran of the United States Military, Reba Jordan has two children, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

According to Boston University, very few will live to reach 100 years old – only about one in every 5,000 people in the United States to be exact. Of those people who live to see 100, 85% of them are women.

A person who is 100 or more years old is called a “centenarian”. “Out of a US population of approximately 336,997,624, in 2021, there were 89,739 centenarians or a prevalence of 0.27%” the Boston University study reports.

At the time of the study, Florida had the second highest number of centenarian residents at 5,113, behind only New York at 5,780.
