High School Seniors Honored For Participating In American Legion Boys State

On Monday, September 4, 2023, four local High School seniors were honored at the Al Krietemeyer American Legion Post 284, in Belleview for participating in this years, The American Legion, Boys State at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

The four seniors that participated in the week long event, that went from Sunday, June 18, 2023 to Saturday, June 24, 2023 are Victor Nygard from Lake Weir High School, Ganesh Naraisan and Ryden Bonnell, both of Belleview High School, along with Brayden Hawk of North Marion High School, each participant was presented with a medal.

Darcy Bockman-Wright, the District 4 Vice Commander and District 4 Boys State Chair, with the American Legion, also attended the Boys State experience, which gives her the honor of being the only female counselor to ever have the opportunity to participate in Boys State. Darcy spoke of how special these boys are. She told them that the best lessons will be learned through failure. Darcy said “these boys worked so hard, they earned a place in my heart”.

After Darcy’s emotional speech, each of the seniors told about their individual journey at Boys State. Ganesh Naraison, explained that the program is a great way to get to know people and make connections. All four boys made it clear that sleep was at a minimum, but they worked hard and learned a lot.
