On the morning of October 25, at 6:43am, Firefighters at Belleview Station #18 were alerted by a citizen stating the house across the street was on fire. Running out into the bay, crew members saw smoke billowing out of the eves of the structure.
The home is located directly across from Station 18, on SE 55th Ave Road.
According to officials, Firefighters at Station #18 jumped into action. The Lieutenant established command, requested a full structure fire response and directed his crew assignments. Rescue #18 made entry on a primary search, while firefighters on Engine #18 and Tower #2 made an aggressive interior attack on the structure.
As the fire occurred before shift change, additional firefighters made their way to the fire to assist. Crews from Spruce Creek Station #30, Villages of Marion Station #10 and Shady Station #16 arrived on scene as suppression units. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, mostly located in the attic space of the structure.
A secondary search of the structure was negative. The fire was called under control at 6:58am.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the MCFR Prevention Division Investigators. No injuries were reported to firefighters on scene.
