Firefighters respond to school bus accident

A Thursday morning traffic crash involving a school bus fortunately resulted in no injuries for Marion County students.

At 8:59 am,  fire rescue units were dispatched to the intersection of SE 150th St and SE 36th Avenue, in reference to a vehicle accident involving a school bus.

911 callers reported the driver of the passenger vehicle had rear-ended the school bus. The bus had 27 students on board at the time of the accident.

Belleview Station #18 units were the first to arrive on scene at 9:06 am. They reported the driver of the passenger vehicle was entrapped in the wreckage. Firefighters made entry to the bus and reported no injuries to the school children. Firefighters started extrication at 9:09am, removing the doors of the vehicle. They were able to remove the driver and declared her a “Trauma Alert”. She was transported to a local trauma hospital.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
