Multi-vehicle collision causes ambulance rollover

On Tuesday morning at 8:58am, Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to reports of a motor vehicle accident involving an MCFR Rescue, a pickup truck, and a small bus at the intersection of SW 90th Street and SW 80th Avenue. Multiple 911 callers reported that an MCFR Rescue was hit and rolled over on its side while responding to a medical call.

The first MCFR units arrived on scene at 8:59am as the motor vehicle accident happened in the vicinity of MCFR Friendship Fire Station #21. Firefighters arrived on scene and immediately began triaging the patients in all three vehicles.

A total of 15 patients were transported by MCFR to local hospitals: 2 MCFR firefighters, 11 special needs students on the bus, the bus driver and the driver of the pickup truck. Eight of the students were transported as a precaution while 3 had minor injuries.

The two MCFR firefighters were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The motor vehicle crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. MCFR would like to remind our citizens to yield to emergency vehicles as our lights and sirens are on.
