On Tuesday, December 5 at 11:23am, Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to I-75 Southbound near Mile Marker 355 regarding a semi-tractor trailer rollover. Multiple 911 callers reported the semi and another vehicle rolled over on their side on the shoulder of I-75. The semi carried hazardous materials, including barrels of antifreeze, motor oil, and diesel fuel.
Rescue #20 and Engine #11 were the first units to arrive on scene. They reported no entrapment but did request the MCFR Special Operations HAZMAT Team to assist in mitigating the HAZMAT spills. Traffic on I-75 southbound was limited to one lane. The State Warning Point was notified of the HAZMAT materials spill and responded to assist.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
