Attention All High School Juniors: Boys State Is Calling You

(Thoughts? Submit a letter to the editor here.)

While many people this time of year are putting their holiday decorations away preparing for a bright new year, the American Legions across the nation are actively searching for their next potential Boys State delegate.

What is Boys State? Boys State is a program established by the American Legion in 1937. Such famous delegates who have completed the program include Jon Bon Jovi, Neil Armstrong, Garth Brooks, Tom Brokaw and even President Bill Clinton.

Boys State is a highly respected program for current High School Juniors. With its intense and structured environment on the FSU campus in Tallahassee, these young men will create the structure of a city, county, and state government operated by the students elected to various offices. The selected delegates will dive into Florida political history with the famous Bob Knight, parliamentary procedures and instruction on the law and order structure. Our elite programs at the Capital allows Delegates the ability to not only create a Bill but debate them in the Florida Senate.

This all expense paid opportunity is available to selected individuals by American Legion Post 284 in Belleview to include other neighboring Legion Post.

The Boys State experience is also available to include homeschoolers. So if you have a passion for Government or are considering a career in public service this is a great opportunity to engage with diverse students from across our State. The Boys State program also offers multiple scholarship opportunities, to include 2 full ride scholarships to FSU.

If you attend Belleview High School contact your guidance counselor for an application, otherwise contact via email Darcy Bockman-Wright at wrightdarcy284@ gmail.com for an application. Deadline for applications is January 30, 2024. There are 530 slots available as we celebrate our 80th session this June 16-22, 2024. Lets see if you have what it takes to be a Boys State Governor.
