According to Marion County Animal Services, six shelter dogs are headed to the Marion Correctional Institution for the next 8 weeks. During their stay, the dogs will be trained and learn socialization skills by local inmates. This is part of Marion County’s FIDO project, where the men will learn positive training techniques and how to better understand dog behavior.

During this 8 week course, there will be two meet and greet events, where the dogs hope to meet potential adopters. The first event will be held at Mr. Mochas Pet Supplies in Belleview, on Saturday, February 3rd, from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.

A Win-Win Relationship

Through the FIDO project, inmates gain a sense of purpose while learning valuable skills and dogs gain obedience training for their life after the shelter.
