Elderly pedestrians struck by vehicle near downtown Ocala

Ocala Police officials say that a tragic incident unfolded on Thursday, Jan. 25, at approximately 6:40 p.m., at the intersection of Magnolia Ave. and W Silver Springs Blvd. The victims of a crash, an elderly husband and wife in their 80s, were both struck by a car.

According to a witness, the vehicle, moving westbound on E Silver Springs Blvd., had the green light as it approached the intersection. Simultaneously, the elderly couple attempted to traverse the roadway from north to south using the crosswalk. The witness noted that the pedestrians were crossing against the “do not walk” signal.

The collision resulted in both victims being rushed to the hospital. Tragically, the 89-year-old man succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 26, around 12:45 p.m. The 83-year-old woman remains in stable condition. Authorities have ruled out speeding or impairment as contributing factors.

The investigation into this devastating crash is ongoing.
