On January 24, Ocala Police took Kacy Kincaid, 33, into custody for aggravated manslaughter of a child.
The harrowing investigation commenced on Oct. 12, 2023, when Ocala police responded to Advent Health concerning an unresponsive 9-month-old, ultimately declared deceased. Initially shrouded in uncertainty, the cause of death gained clarity when Kincaid, the child’s mother, was found with 5 grams of Fentanyl. Attempts to interview her were thwarted as she displayed signs of drug or alcohol influence, prompting Ocala Police Detective Kern to secure a search warrant for a blood sample. Subsequently, she faced a jail term on a felony trafficking charge.
A breakthrough emerged with a report from the Medical Examiner’s Office, attributing the child’s demise to Fentanyl, methamphetamine, and xylazine toxicity. Kincaid’s blood sample mirrored a similar Fentanyl presence, coupled with additional substances. The tested Fentanyl from her possession revealed the same Xylazine compound detected in the child’s autopsy.
Detective Kern’s relentless pursuit of truth uncovered enough probable cause to arrest Kincaid for her child’s tragic fate.
The incident sheds light on the dire consequences of drug addiction, leading to the loss of an innocent young life to Fentanyl. A plea resonates for individuals to steer clear of drugs and seek help when grappling with addiction. The police advocate for their drug amnesty program, offering a confidential means to dispose of drugs and seek assistance.
