School Resource Officer arrested for Lewd and Lascivious Battery on a juvenile

UPDATE: When the alleged incidents transpired in 2019, Linan was a school resource office at Horizon Academy in Marion Oaks – a school for children between the 5th and 8th grade levels.

A 35-year-old school resource officer has found himself behind bars and facing serious allegations.

Today, Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 34-year-old Christian Linan, for Lewd and Lascivious Battery on a juvenile victim. Linan has served as a School Resource Officer at Dunnellon High School since August, 2022.

Detectives were made aware of the allegations last week after the victim, a former student who is now an adult, confided in a counselor about the relationship between her and Linan. According to the investigation, Linan began having inappropriate sexual contact with the victim in 2019 when she was 15 years old. The victim reported that she and Linan had sex on multiple occasions while she was a juvenile. After interviewing Linan, detectives found that enough evidence existed for Linan’s arrest.

Linan, who resigned his position, had been serving with the MCSO since September of 2016. He is currently being held in the Marion County Jail with no bond.

In a statement posted on social media, Sheriff Woods said, “Every day, I have a thousand employees working hard and doing what’s right. So, it hurts each one of us when someone does something like this and casts a shadow over the good that the rest of these deputies are doing. All of my deputies know the standards I set for the Office of Sheriff. In fact, they take an oath to uphold those standards and they know that I have zero tolerance for this kind of action. I am glad that the victim had the courage to come forward and let us know.”
