Souls Harbor First Pentecostal Church of Belleview recently hosted an enormous crowd for a nostalgic favorite – “The Jesus Tent Revival”. This four-day-long event was the church’s first attempt at a true outdoor tent revival since the 1970s and the results were overwhelming, according to Pastor Jason Varnum. “We believed God was going to do great things but we had no idea how great God was going to show himself,” Varnum explained. “People came in with their heart broken and God began to mend their heart.”

Everyone was invited to this community event and at its peak, over 800 chairs were filled. Pastor Jason Varnum explained the idea behind hosting an outdoor tent revival is to remove barriers and provide an inviting atmosphere that could allow people to experience Jesus, possibly even for the very first time. Souls Harbor congregation members say that the Jesus Tent Revival was an incredible success, with 126 people being baptized and 86 receiving the Holy Ghost. “We really hope to do this again,” Pastor Varnum explained.

The story behind The Jesus Tent Revival and its creator is equally interesting. Dr. Braden Andersen, who served as a practicing medical doctor for 10 years, says that he was called by God for another purpose. While he had made a career in healing bodies, his new found purpose was to help heal people’s hearts. Thus, the Jesus Tent Revival was born.

Dr. Andersen, along with his wife and three children, now get to travel the country and help put on these wonderful tent revival events. A busy 2024 is planned with 12 upcoming Jesus Tent Revival stops across the country.

“We fell in love with this,” explained Andersen. “Our big picture is to give people an opportunity to worship in an atmosphere that is not intimidating.”

Once the event had wrapped up, Pastor Jason Varnum explained the contentment that he felt. “I am still just thinking about everything God did during this tent revival. The lives that were changed, baptized, filled with the Holy Ghost. It’s so exciting to see what God is doing.”
