Sheriff K-9 ‘Leo’ injured early Saturday morning

Today, the community is called upon to join in prayer and support for the courageous K-9 “Leo,” who sustained injuries while fearlessly serving in the line of duty to protect local citizens.

The incident unfolded Saturday morning around 9 am when deputies responded to a call in the 900 block of NE 144th Court in Silver Springs. The call was in relation to a suspect accused of Battery by Strangulation. The situation escalated as the suspect, located in the backyard, opened fire towards the deputies, resulting in K-9 Leo being wounded in the exchange. In response, deputies engaged with necessary force, leading to the apprehension of the suspect, who was subsequently transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased.

Amidst the tense situation, K-9 Leo was swiftly rushed to UF Veterinary Hospital, where a dedicated team is tirelessly working to ensure his recovery. The community holds onto hope and sends heartfelt prayers for the brave K-9’s well-being.
