Asleep at the Wheel: Deputy Prevents DUI Disaster

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies swiftly intervened in a potentially dangerous situation in the 8900 block of SE 140th Loop, responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the driver, identified as Carri Ricks, was passed out in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still in drive.

The situation escalated as Ricks was awakened, and instead of shifting the vehicle into park, she unintentionally shifted into reverse, narrowly avoiding a collision with the patrol vehicle. Deputy Weaver skillfully intervened, bringing the vehicle to a stop and immediately initiating field sobriety exercises.

Subsequent investigations led to Ricks’ arrest for driving under the influence (DUI). She was promptly taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. During processing, Ricks provided breath samples, revealing a blood alcohol content of .226.
