On March 20, the Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) swiftly responded to a blazing emergency at the BP Gas Station located at 7947 West Highway 40 in Ocala. At precisely 7:30 am, MCFR units were dispatched to the scene following multiple frantic 911 calls reporting a white semi-tractor trailer engulfed in flames, situated perilously close to power lines and adjacent to gas pumps.

Arriving promptly at 7:36 am, MCFR Meadowood Farms Station #12 sprang into action, establishing West Highway 40 command. Upon assessment, firefighters discovered the tractor trailer’s wheels ablaze, with the fire having penetrated inside the trailer, which was loaded with soft drinks and other liquids. Despite the hazardous proximity to gas pumps, the presence of a fire hydrant on-site facilitated rapid intervention, allowing firefighters to swiftly bring the inferno under control within a mere 3 minutes.

Assuming command upon arrival, Battalion Chief 5 oversaw operations as Engine 12’s crew diligently carried out mop-up operations, ensuring the scene was secure and the risk of reignition mitigated. The efficient response and coordinated efforts of MCFR personnel averted a potential disaster, highlighting their dedication to protecting lives and property within the community.
