Meet Robin Waite, Belleview Elementary’s School Crossing Guard

(Thoughts? Have your letter to the editor published here!)

Each day schools are in session, School Crossing Guards (SCGs) help students safely get to their classrooms. They are out there before dawn, sometimes in the rain, other times in the fog, or on cold days.

Belleview has one SCG serving the only public school within the city, Belleview Elementary, located on busy CR-484. Robin Waite has been the SCG for eight years.

When asked what she enjoyed most about her job, she replied, “Getting to know the kids.” She added that by being there for eight years, she has been able to assist some students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Some former students still drop by.

As the school bell rings, the crossing guard waits to be sure there are no late students hurrying to get to class. Her early shift has ended, but her day on the job is not complete. She will return later that afternoon to again assist students in beginning their trip home.

The Belleview Elementary School crossing guard is often assisted by Belleview Police Officers monitoring traffic and enforcing the 20 MPH school crossing speed limit.
